SAINTS ALIVE
In October of 2025, newly into my self-designated writing career, and in celebration of life’s seventh decade, I began to wonder…just wonder. I thought of all the Saints I have access to and decided to ask three of them a question. I asked each one a different question.
Ten months later, the entry resurfaced. It seems like they are speaking directly to me today.
From the voices of Therese, Fr. Bosco, and Padre Pio:
“Dear Little Flower, how do I pack for Home?”
‘Be little, and simple, and humble. Remember that you are very tiny and that no good can come from you that does not originate from God. Look for little ways to sacrifice. Can you name some of those possibilities now? Can you imagine how they might be soothing to His wounds? Do you see someone else who is wounded? What could you do for them? Name ten things that you might do tomorrow to make Jesus smile. Have you been able to stop yourself from a mean word or hurtful action, and replace it with a healing choice?’
“Dearest Father Bosco, So much has been revealed and entrusted to you. The lives of many young people and disenfranchised souls. Can you guide me now?”
‘I would ask you these things. Do you need to be first, always, or can you be content with last place? Can you help someone along the way without feeling cheated yourself? Can you look into the face of something truly disturbing and find a way to not be offensive towards another, or afraid? Can you ask forgiveness? Can you offer forgiveness? Do you seek the easy path and frequent rest? Can you encourage someone who has given up and is retreating down the mountain? Can you walk the narrow and severe path, always moving forward, even though movement is imperceptible? You must understand indulgences and seek them frequently. Do this with the proper disposition. Tell me what that will look like for you. Make a descriptive narrative of your own indulgences and proper disposition. Ponder these things often. Meditate on them in every free moment. Do this as you are falling asleep and on awakening. Do all these things with confidence, even as you are first learning how to. The more you do this, the more they will become part of your nature.’
“Padre Pio, what would you add?”
“Pray, hope, and don’t worry.” ‘Then, every day for the rest of your life, offer continual prayer and sacrifice for the holy souls [in Purgatory]. Their love and gratitude for you will never cease,’
Finally, all of our Saints, along with our Holy Mother, agree on this: ‘Pray. Pray. Pray. Addend Holy Mass and go to confession frequently.’
“Thank you dear friends.”
